Microsoft has started phasing out support of the Windows Operating System used on many mobile devices. Windows Mobile is commonly used in some of the more rugged handheld devices, so as you replace these devices you will want to consider changing to an alternate operating system to future-proof your investment.
The most flexible and capable OS solution for future devices would be Android. Since it is based on a familiar smartphone interface, Android makes the transition easier as it is familiar to almost any user. Android is also easier to develop on, which makes it a very common platform for a wide range of applications. Because of this there is a big push to put current versions of Android onto rugged devices and handhelds for the warehouse.
