Retail store replenishment ensures businesses always have sufficient inventory to meet changing customer demands by counting products and reordering stock accordingly. However, with plentiful inventory comes the need to distribute it across your retail locations quickly and efficiently. That’s why your warehouse must be optimally designed and equipped with cutting-edge material handling solutions to ensure your inventory gets where it needs to be promptly, making way for new items in your facility.
You can ensure accurate and efficient restocking for your company with retail automation warehouse solutions from Siggins. We’ve provided companies across North America with top-of-the-line material handling and storage solutions since our establishment in 1946.
Stock replenishment plays a crucial role in retail companies’ success, helping them keep up with customer demands while maintaining adequate speed to market. However, some organizations experience challenges with their replenishment systems, impacting their restocking accuracy and business outcomes.
Retail store replenishment can pose issues for SKU categories that may not be used for full pallet shipments. For example, if you pick only a few cases of products a day from a pallet with dozens of cases, it may take weeks to fully deplete your inventory for that particular product. As a result, those goods will age over time.
While product aging in the retail industry doesn’t pose expiration risks like goods in the food sector, many manufacturers prefer to ship out older products before newer ones. The replenishment process can push older products to the back of the queue.
Safety stock is extra inventory companies maintain to combat supply and demand uncertainties and reduce the risk of stock-outs. While maintaining a safety stock inventory has many benefits, it can also pose numerous supply chain visibility and efficiency challenges for retailers, such as outdated data reliance, increased carrying costs and excess stock.
The stock replenishment process requires that companies store extensive inventory in their warehouses based on growing demands. Many organizations struggle to store replenished products due to limited warehouse real estate and poor space optimization. For example, companies that don’t take advantage of their vertical warehouse space can expect to crowd their floor space and run out of room for their materials, drastically affecting warehouse replenishment.
In addition to minimizing storage capabilities, poor space management can also lead to reduced efficiency in your warehouse operations. The harder it is for your workers to access inventory, the slower the retail picking process will be.
While manual inventory management may cut it for companies with one warehouse location and minimal inventory, these outdated procedures can cause major challenges when sales volumes increase and inventory needs grow. Manual picking, packing and shipping operations are highly labor-intensive and can quickly bog down efficiency within your warehouse. As a result, you may struggle to keep up with industry demands and distribute products in a timely manner.

Siggins has undertaken many projects for retail and apparel companies, helping them optimize their retail warehouses for dependable inventory replenishment.
A specialty garments provider wanted to consolidate its raw material distribution from multiple facilities to a single, high-efficiency warehouse. In response, Siggins analyzed the company’s current product movement rates and consolidated five individual operations into a new material handling system using pick-to-light and radio frequency (RF) device technologies.
Our client, a Central American garment manufacturer, needed to improve their order pulling system for specialty garments using limited warehouse space. They needed to retrieve multiple sizes and colors per item before the garments were sent out for screen printing or embroidery.
We designed and installed a three-level picking module system for our client to store the required SKUs within the available cube space. This material handling system included carton flow and decked shelf pick racks that allowed for velocity-based SKU housing. It also featured a handheld radio frequency system for picking direction and live-roller conveyor transports for ergonomic picking and packing.
We recently did a project for a national specialty garments distributor that experienced a sudden spike in business growth, causing the company to run out of warehouse space. This client required additional cube space to avoid expanding their facility or moving to a new one.
Siggins responded to this need by implementing a multilevel picking module system for boxed and hanging garments. This picking module allowed for concentrated and specialized zone picking, enabling the client to better handle their current inventory, optimize warehouse space and allow for additional growth.
